Tree & Booms offers recording, mixing, and production services.

Located in Charlottesville, VA, Tree & Booms Studio is a recording studio owned and operated by producer, composer/songwriter, drummer, and mixer Matt Wyatt. The studio is an open space (700 square feet, 14’ ceiling) with excellent room acoustics. The workflow is hybrid analog-digital with top of the line recording equipment and fully functional house instruments, new and vintage classics. Tree & Booms does not strive to be a typical commercial studio but instead provides an alternative environment where communication, personal attention, and support of your creative musical process are held as top priorities. Artists have described the environment as welcoming.

Tree & Booms is a collaborative recording space that is capable of hi-fi sonics without feeling overly slick. Priority has been given to cultivating a boutique collection of outboard equipment that is used both in the process of recording and in mixing. For artists who also want production input, there is the option to have everything done in-house, including contributions by an A team of studio musicians. Wyatt has helped many musicians refine their songs, approach, sound, and musicianship through the recording process.

As an engineer, mixer, and/or producer, Wyatt has worked artists including Night Teacher, Lowland Hum, Marie Tatti, Nicole Mitchell & Ballake Sissoko, Dillingham, Jack Tierney, Thomas Gunn, Amber McBride, Ryan Trott, Beleza, Dear Black Gold, Jaewar & Vibe Riot, The Pollocks, Frontier Diplomacy, Ted Coffey, David Wax Museum, Golden Hour, Wells Hanley, Eli Cook, Vevlo Eel, Orion Faruque, Joel Streeter, Reid Mitchell, Boxed Lunch, Buzzard Hollow Boys, Farewell Friend, Fog Chaser, Gabrielle Cerberville, JJ von Briesen, Robert Jospé, Elsa Coffey, Pete McRae, MacMillan Publishers, Harper Collins Publishers, UVA Department of Drama and Dance, Unsettling Grounds (App curated by Marisa Williamson), WarHen Records, FPE Records. PEOPLE SAY…

Tree & Booms is one of my favorite places on Earth to be. The studio is a cornerstone, both for all kinds of recording purposes and for cozy, quiet, self-caring workspace. It's a perfect symbiosis of high artistic value and functionality. Matt is incredibly skilled across multiple instruments and implements, plus he's an effective communicator- a self-reflective, emotionally intelligent, introverted people person who knows first hand the challenges that an artist can face when putting their "baby" out into the world.

-Marie Tatti (Singer-Songwriter and Performance Artist)

In the process of working with Matt on my first record I began to regard my own music with more discernment, attunement, and respect; a shift I will always treasure. From the (welcomed) workshopping of songs to the final stages of the mixing process, Matt was thoughtful, talented, respectful, meticulous, passionate yet utterly professional, and extremely knowledgeable about a wide range of topics regarding the making, practice, and recording of music.

-Lilly Bechtel (Night Teacher)

My music has never sounded better and more authentic than when it is filtered through the production mind, heart, and soul of Matt Wyatt.  Everything from the setup of his studio to his unorthodox recording philosophy to his accepting and loving attitude make for an expansive and adventurous creative climate.  My best vocal takes ever were recorded lying on my back on the floor of his studio. He is open to trying everything to help the music come out in the most unobstructed way possible.  His ideas always feel fresh and experimental but also never contrived, always perfectly in tune with what is trying to emerge.

- Wells Hanley (Pianist, Composer)

Working with Matt has always been such a pleasure. He creates an environment that is easy to create and collaborate in and his space, gear, and experience are all top notch and on par with any of the larger studios I've worked in. Thanks for always being an excellent engineer and simply a great guy to work with!

- Tucker MacDonald (Songwriter)
